Join us at the first annual Valley Crest Merit Badge Fair! A morning and afternoon session will be open for scouts to attend a merit badge workshop of their choice and the Eagle's Nest will be open for scouts to meet counselors regarding incomplete badges.

Morning Session

Our morning session will meet from 8am-12noon unless otherwise noted. Scouts should arrive to Valley Crest NO LATER than 7:50am to check in and find their workshop. Each attendee may choose ONE morning and ONE afternoon workshop.

Afternoon Session

Our afternoon session will meet from 1pm-4pm unless otherwise noted. Please arrive NO LATER than 12:50pm to check in and find your workshop. Each attendee may register for ONE morning and ONE afternoon workshop.

Eagle's Nest

The Eagle's Nest is a collection of counselors prepared to meet with scouts and discuss incomplete badges and sign off on completed requirements.All badges offered in the workshop will also be available in the Eagle's Nest. Additionally, the following will have counselors available to discuss the badge and sign off on requirements.

What do I bring to the fair?

  • Your blue card(s), signed off by your scout master, for any badges that you will work on at the fair
  • If you are staying for both sessions, bring a bagged lunch and snacks
  • Plenty of water!
  • Notebook (that you can write on without a desk), pen and/or pencil
  • Completed prerequisites
  • Appropriate protection from the elements (sunscreen, rain coat if needed, appropriate shoes for the outdoors)
  • Merit badge pamphlets for the workshops you will complete at the fair are highly suggested-scouts should review them thoroughly before the start of their class

Registration

Register for as many as ONE morning and ONE afternoon workshop. Prerequisites are listed along with the badge name. All badge workshops ask for a donation of $10 for registration.

Remember, there is always a possibility that your badge may not be completed in class. There may also be prerequisites you are unable to complete in time for the fair, that is OK! Your counselor will sign off on all completed requirements and will meet with you later for the remainder, if needed.

  • Morning Sessions

    All morning classes will meet from 8am-12noon unless otherwise noted. Please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your class to check in and find your meeting space. You may choose up to ONE morning and ONE afternoon session.

  • Type "1" in the quantity box to register. Meets from 9am-12pm MAY END EARLY. PREREQUISITES: Scouts should use the Communication merit badge booklet and workbook and complete all requirements (1-9) in advance. Be prepared to present and discuss in a small group setting. Requirements 1, 2, 7 and 9 should be completed on the workbook as described in the merit badge book and scouts should be prepared for a group discussion. Scouts can complete requirements 3 and 6 by sharing an experience at school or scouts when they gave a speech or taught a skill OR doing a short speech/teaching a skill with the group that day. Requirements 4, 5 and 8 must be completed in advance with some preplanning, so scouts should schedule (interview, public meeting, plan/host event) accordingly.

PREREQUISITES: Req. #3(a) (bring a copy of the agenda with you to class), Req. #5 ( view one of the movies listed on meritbadge.org, under Citizenship in the Community) Req. #7 (c) (Bring me a note from the organization stating that you completed 8 hours of volunteer work. Note: the organization you choose must be one that is new to you. It cannot be one that you have already worked at, or already belong to, such as your church, etc.) Remember to bring the map of your town, your chart for #2 (c), list of services for #6, and your presentation for #8.

    All afternoon sessions will run from 12noon-4pm unless otherwise noted. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before the start of your class to check in and find your class. You may register for up to ONE morning and ONE afternoon class.

This should include any and all equipment that they would normally bring on an outing. Equipment will be discussed and inspected. Information on various styles and types of equipment will be shown and taught how to use. Besides equipment, we will learn methods and techniques for staying in back country; Emergencies, Cold, Rain, Safety, Cleanliness...
