Farm N' Nature Retreat 2018
Whether your child likes to hike, swim, play games with friends or camp. Valley Crest is the place to be this summer. The Farm N' Nature Retreat brings campers close to nature, lets them explore natural foods and build lifelong friendships. Campers will be immersed in educational activities that are so fun, campers won't even realize they are learning! We even have a beautiful campsite with platforms for overnight stays.
See a general outline of activities below and we will send out more information on activities as the summer gets closer. Every day will include at least one craft that matches activities of the day, a hike, and free play time.
Two weeks will be open for registration: July 30 - August 3 for ages 10-11, and August 6- 10 for ages 8-9, and Camp will run from 9am-4pm each day. If your child is camping overnight, he/she will be picked up at the regular time, 4pm, on Friday.
Camp fees are $295/ child
$350/ child (includes overnight camping for one night)
Day One: Farm Exploration Day
Enjoy the fruits of farming (pun intended!) and learn how a commercial farm actually works with Farmer Pete and Farmer Jake. Harvest and taste fruits from the farm, make your own preserves and more! Campers will learn about harvesting of fruits and vegetables through hands-on activities and friendly competitions.
Day Two: Games Day
Bring your favorite board or card game to camp and play it against new friends. Maybe you'll discover your favorite new game! We will also have a field day complete with water games and relay races. Learn orienteering and how to use a compass, too!
Day Three: Field Trip Day (Round Valley Recreation Area)
Campers and instructors enjoy a day of hiking, swimming and fun at Round Valley Recreation Area (minutes away from Valley Crest Farm & Preserve) to enjoy a day of hiking, swimming and fun.
Day Four: Camping Day
Set up camp at Valley Crest's campsite and prepare to spend the night if you want. Those who wish to may bring a tent (or share one with a friend), spend the evening under the stars and learn about the constellations. During the day, campers will learn about outdoor safety and first aid, play games, roast marshmallows and practice camping skills. Those who are not camping will be picked up at the regular time.
Day Five: Nature Day
Hike, explore waterways and take on scavenger hunts that provide hands-on opportunities to learn about nature. Campers will search for benthic macroinvertebrates (underwater bugs), identify birds and other creatures in nature and complete fun experiments.
