It Takes A Lot of “Hands” to Keep Up a Farm!
Volunteers are the backbone of nonprofit organizations. Whether you are seeking a meaningful volunteer commitment or searching for a means of fulfilling community service hours, there are many different ways you can get involved at Valley Crest! View the volunteer opportunities and fill out the volunteer application at the bottom of this page to get started!
Be a Farmer for a Day
Our hard working farm staff works tirelessly to produce delicious and healthy food in a sustainable fashion. If you enjoy getting your hands in the dirt, you can be a farmer for the day and help plant vegetables, prune fruit trees, weed, mulch, harvest and much more. You’ll also learn about growing crops using natural, sustainable methods. Time Commitment: variable
Pick for the Pantry
Everyone deserves fresh produce for a healthy diet. As part of our mission, we donate thousands of pounds of fresh produce to local food pantries to help feed those in need. Pick for the Pantry is ideal for Cub, Boy and Girl Scouts, homeschool groups, church groups and others. As a volunteer you’ll learn about how hunger is a serious problem in our community before taking to the orchard and picking apples and other fresh produce for donation. Time Commitment: one hour
Drive for the Pantry
Once the produce is picked, packed in boxes and ready to ship, you can help us deliver it to the food pantries. If you have a driver’s license and a truck or van, let us know. We do deliveries once or twice a week (depending on our yield) in Hunterdon and Warren Counties. Time Commitment: one hour
Farmer’s Market Helper
Open seven days a week with enhanced offerings from outside vendors on Saturdays mornings, our market offers farm-fresh healthy food just picked. Volunteers will help us wash, prepare and display produce and assist customers. Time Commitment: five hours on alternating weekends
Valley Crest is committed to educating youth, scouts and the general public. If you love kids and have an interest in the environment, farming (and eating s’mores at a campfire!), you can assist our naturalist Rachel McGovern with her many programs throughout the year. From school field trips, scout badge classes, public programs and our educational gardens. Best of all, you’ll learn something, too, along the way! Time Commitment: two hours per program
Lead a Program
If you have an area of expertise that you feel reflects our mission of hunger relief, agriculture, nature, healthy eating or cooking, let us know! You can create a seminar or workshop on a topic of your choice. Time Commitment: one to two hours plus preparation
Volunteers will choose one of Valley Crest’s four beautiful public trails that surround the farm and make sure it’s clear and safe to hike as well as horseback ride. You’ll check tree blazes, keep the trail clear of debris, hanging branches, and more. Time Commitment: variable
Having employees volunteer at a nonprofit is the essence of corporate social responsibility. If your company is looking for a way to give back, please consider Valley Crest as a nonprofit partner. Employees may help with trail cleanup, Pick for the Pantry for the food bank, garden planting, maintenance, and more. Companies may also combine this volunteer experience with an all-day team-building workshop. Time Commitment: variable
Join a Committee
Join us in making our mission a reality! If you have any experience in fundraising, event planning, marketing or public relations, we welcome your support. Our upcoming Harvest Festival and Flavors of Fall events need extra hands! Time commitment: 1 meeting per month plus additional time as needed.
Yes! I want to make a difference!
