As most of you know, nice weather means busy days for farmers. Valley Crest has been no exception. After so many steady weeks of rain and wet ground, we were thrilled to have such a beautiful and sunny week to catch up on planting, mowing, and caring for our farm. The addition of our new farm assistants and one great volunteer have had a huge impact on how much we have been able to get done! We all have had fun thinning, weeding, and planting fall’s harvest together. Our raspberries are just beginning to come in and the blackberries are in bloom. The farm is truly looking its best, just in time for pick-your-own season!
Last week kick-started our season with the first CSA pick-up and our first produce donation of the year! Over the last three years, we have donated over 150,000 pounds of fresh produce all to local food pantries and feeding banks. Building community food security is a pillar of Valley Crest Farm & Preserve. This season, we hope to expand our donations and ensure none of our neighbors are going without fresh produce.
Rachel, our Education Director, has finalized our Events Calendar for the season. We are so excited to start our Summer Crew Exploration Series each Thursday for kids 8 and older. The program will begin with a Stream Safari exploring our fresh water for all sorts of critters. Oh to be a kid again…. Check out our calendar of events here!
We are preparing for our Annual Board of Director Meeting this Thursday. Stay tuned for some exciting announcements coming after that!
